Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현되며, 말초신경절의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 강하게 나타납니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 널리 활용되며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP 발현이 높게 관찰됩니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte와 다른 교세포를 구분하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상교세포 질환)를 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 전사 변이체가 존재하며, 각각 다른 아이소폼을 암호화합니다.
