Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 교세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발견됩니다.
GFAP는 신경줄기세포(neural stem cell)의 표지자로서 널리 사용되며, 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytoma 등)에서도 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다. 간의 Kupffer 세포, 침샘 종양 세포, 수정체 상피 및 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다.
GFAP 항체는 발달 과정 중 다른 교세포와 성상세포를 구분하는 데 유용하며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상세포 질환)의 원인이 됩니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 이소폼이 생성됩니다.
