Target Information

RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. It is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and is essential in growth factor–regulated cell proliferation, pathways involving cell motility (such as metastases), immune response, and tissue repair.
p70S6K acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, with its main physiological target being the S6 ribosomal protein involved in upregulation of protein synthesis. Its kinase activity leads to increased protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of the p70S6K gene are observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
