Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein.
p70 S6 kinase is mainly localized in the cytoplasm and plays essential roles in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility (including metastasis), immune response, and tissue repair.
It acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, targeting the S6 ribosomal protein to upregulate protein synthesis.
Its kinase activity increases protein synthesis and cell proliferation, and amplification or overexpression of p70 S6 kinase is observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
