Target Information
STING is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that serves as a crucial component of innate immune signaling. It activates both NF-κB and IRF3 transcription pathways, inducing expression of type I interferons (IFN-α and IFN-β) and establishing a strong antiviral state. STING may also function as a translocon, influencing interferon induction and mediating apoptotic signaling through its association with MHC-II. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, and mediates death signaling via activation of the ERK pathway. STING is generally localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
