Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular/luminal epitope of CD63 (LAMP-3), a 40–60 kDa tetraspan glycoprotein expressed by granulocytes, platelets, T cells, monocytes/macrophages, and endothelial cells. Cell surface exposition of CD63 is usually activation-dependent.
Target Information
CD63 (LAMP-3, lysosome-associated membrane protein-3) is a glycoprotein of the tetraspanin family, present in late endosomes, lysosomes, and secretory vesicles of various cell types. It is also found on the plasma membrane following cell activation and is widely used as a basophil activation marker. In mast cells, CD63 exposition does not require activation.
CD63 interacts with integrins, influences phagocytosis and cell migration, and is involved in H/K-ATPase trafficking and ROMK1 channel regulation. It also serves as a T-cell costimulation molecule. CD63 expression can predict carcinoma prognosis, and it is identical to the melanoma-associated antigen ME491 and platelet antigen PTLGP40. Diseases associated with CD63 dysfunction include melanoma and Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome.
