Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40–68 kDa and have isoelectric points between pH 4.9–7.8.
Each human cytokeratin (numbered 1–20) is expressed in specific epithelial types and reflects the degree of cellular differentiation.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are widely used in distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis via immunohistochemistry and are also valuable in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
