Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity. Human epithelial tissues express at least 20 different cytokeratin polypeptides, ranging in molecular weight from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype is numbered 1 to 20 and shows distinct expression patterns depending on tissue type and differentiation stage. These patterns assist in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are useful for differential tumor diagnosis via immunohistochemistry, as well as in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
