Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, and their expression patterns are characteristic of epithelial type and maturation stage.
Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used to distinguish epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are also valuable tools in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
