Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Their molecular weights range from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa, with isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Individual cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20 and show expression patterns characteristic of epithelial type and differentiation stage. Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis via immunohistochemistry and are also valuable tools in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
