E-Cadherin (epithelial cadherin)는 칼슘 의존적 세포 간 접착을 매개하는 고전적 카드헤린 단백질로, 세포 외부에 5개의 cadherin 반복부, 막 관통 영역, 그리고 보존된 세포질 꼬리를 포함합니다.
이 유전자의 변이는 위암, 유방암, 대장암, 갑상선암, 난소암 등 다양한 암종과 관련이 있으며, E-cadherin 발현의 감소 또는 결손은 종양의 침습성과 전이 가능성을 증가시킵니다.
E-cadherin은 조직 구조 유지 및 세포 성장 조절에 중요한 역할을 하며, 인간에서는 CDH1 유전자로부터 발현됩니다.
