Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, is a virus that causes illnesses ranging from mild cold symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen of the coronavirus.
S1 contains a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that specifically binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) on target cells.
Spike and nucleocapsid proteins can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
Variations in Spike proteins contribute to CoV diversity, influencing receptor interactions and viral fusion mechanisms.
