Target Information
EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates signaling in response to growth factors. Overexpression is associated with various cancers, and EGFR is a target for multiple therapeutic agents.
EGFR is located on chromosome 7 and belongs to the HER/ErbB family (ERbB2, ERbB3, ERbB4). Ligand binding (e.g., EGF, TGF-α) induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation of cytoplasmic tyrosine residues.
Overexpression is observed in tumors of the head and neck, brain, bladder, stomach, breast, lung, endometrium, cervix, vulva, ovary, esophagus, and squamous cell carcinoma.
