Target Information
ATF-2 (also known as CRE-BP1) is a transcription factor that binds to AP-1 and CRE DNA response elements and belongs to the ATF/CREB family of leucine zipper proteins. It interacts with viral oncoproteins and tumor suppressors and is a target of SAPK/JNK and p38 MAP kinase pathways.
ATF-2 is activated by phosphorylation at Thr69 and Thr71 in response to cellular stress, such as genotoxic agents, cytokines, and UV irradiation. Both SAPK and p38 MAPK phosphorylate ATF-2 at these sites in vitro and in transfected cells.
