Target Information
EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates signaling in response to various growth factors. Overexpression of EGFR is associated with multiple cancer types and serves as a therapeutic target for biological and small molecule drugs.
EGFR is encoded on human chromosome 7 and belongs to the HER/ErbB family (ErbB2, ErbB3, ErbB4). Ligand binding (e.g., EGF, TGF-α) induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation at tyrosine residues, activating downstream signaling pathways.
Overexpression is observed in cancers of the head and neck, brain, bladder, stomach, breast, lung, endometrium, cervix, vulva, ovary, esophagus, and in squamous cell carcinoma.
