Target Information
DIABLO (Smac) is a mitochondrial protein involved in activating apoptosis by neutralizing inhibitors of apoptosis (IAP) family proteins. During apoptosis, Smac exits the mitochondria and enters the cytosol, playing a crucial role in regulating cell death pathways. Mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis is essential for development and tissue homeostasis, and its dysregulation can lead to malignant disorders. Smac/DIABLO also contributes to sensitizing cancer cells to immune- or drug-induced apoptosis.
