Target Information
PLIC1 (Ubiquilin 1) is an ubiquitin-like protein that shares high similarity with homologs in yeast, rat, and frog.
Ubiquilins contain:
- N-terminal ubiquitin-like domain
- C-terminal ubiquitin-associated domain
They associate with proteasomes and ubiquitin ligases, linking ubiquitination machinery to proteasome-mediated protein degradation.
Ubiquilin has been shown to modulate presenilin protein accumulation and is found in lesions associated with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
