In human epithelial tissues, at least 20 distinct cytokeratin polypeptides (numbered 1–20) are expressed, with molecular weights ranging from 40–68 kDa and isoelectric points between 4.9–7.8.
Cytokeratin expression patterns vary by epithelial type, differentiation stage, and disease state, making them valuable markers in cancer research and tumor diagnosis.
