The 1D6 monoclonal antibody reacts with human BLyS (B lymphocyte stimulator), also known as BAFF (B cell activating factor from the TNF family), TALL-1, THANK, and zTNF4.
BLyS is a type II membrane protein existing in both membrane-bound and soluble forms, regulated by IFN-gamma on monocyte lineage. It functions as a potent B cell growth factor and costimulator of Ig production.

BLyS transgenic mice exhibit severe B cell hyperplasia and autoimmune lupus-like disease, suggesting a role in human autoimmune disorders. Known receptors for BLyS include BCMA, TACI, and BR3. BLyS can form heterotrimers with APRIL, which are detected in serum from patients with systemic immune-based rheumatic diseases.

Target Information

BAFF is a membrane-bound cytokine expressed by B cell lineage cells. The soluble form binds to TNFRSF13B/TACI, TNFRSF17/BCMA, and TNFRSF13C/BAFFR receptors.
It acts as a potent B cell activator, promoting proliferation and differentiation. BAFF is also expressed by T lymphocytes, enhancing T cell activation and survival. Multiple isoforms, including spliced and glycosylated variants, have been identified.
