Target Information
Alpha catenin is a member of the β-catenin family of cytosolic proteins. It interacts with N-cadherin and β-catenin on the cytosolic side of adherens junctions to mediate interaction with the actin cytoskeleton. Alpha catenin forms homodimers in solution but dissociates to form a 1:1 heterodimer with β-catenin to interact with cadherins. It regulates morphological plasticity of synapses and cerebellar and hippocampal lamination during development, and functions in control of startle modulation.
