Target Information
ATP synthase is an evolutionarily conserved transmembrane enzyme found in plants, fungi, bacteria, and animals. It catalyzes the reversible conversion of ADP and phosphate to ATP through proton flux across membranes driven by electron transfer.
The enzyme comprises two main sections:
- F1 ATP-ase (soluble): includes alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon subunits
- F0 ATP-ase (membrane embedded): includes a, b, and c subunits
