Target Information
TAOK2 (TAO1) is a serine/threonine kinase that may regulate the stress-responsive p38 MAP kinase pathway. In vitro, TAO2 activates MAP/ERK kinases (MEK) 3, 4, and 6 toward their substrates p38 MAP kinase and JNK/SAPK (Chen et al., 1999; Chen and Cobb, 2001).
Further studies suggest that TAO kinases play an essential role in signaling from physiological agonists to the stress-responsive p38 MAPK (Chen et al., 2003).
Autophosphorylation of TAO may contribute to its activation mechanism, with Ser181 located within the MEK binding domain.
