Target Information

WISP2 is a member of the WNT1 inducible signaling pathway (WISP) protein subfamily, which belongs to the connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) family. WNT1 is a cysteine-rich, glycosylated signaling protein family that mediates diverse developmental processes.
CTGF family members have four conserved cysteine-rich domains: insulin-like growth factor-binding domain, von Willebrand factor type C module, thrombospondin domain, and C-terminal cystine knot-like (CT) domain.
WISP2 lacks the CT domain, which is implicated in dimerization and heparin binding. It shares 72% amino acid identity with the mouse protein.
This gene may act downstream in the WNT1 signaling pathway relevant to malignant transformation. Its expression is reduced in colon tumors, whereas other WISP members are overexpressed. WISP2 is highly expressed in bone tissue and may play a role in modulating bone turnover.
