Target Information
GFI1b (zinc finger protein GFI-1b) is a proto-oncogenic transcriptional regulator essential for erythroid and megakaryocytic lineage development. It is part of the RCOR-GFI-KDM1A-HDAC complex, which suppresses genes related to multilineage blood cell development through HDAC recruitment.
GFI1b functions as both a transcriptional repressor and activator depending on promoter and cell type context. It represses SOCS1 and SOCS3 promoter activity, thereby regulating cytokine signaling pathways. It also cooperates with GATA1 to repress target genes such as BCL2L1, influencing apoptosis in leukemic cell lines.
Mutations in GFI1B are associated with Bleeding Disorder, Platelet-Type 17 (BDPLT17).
