Target Information
G protein-coupled receptor GPR49 (LGR5) is expressed in brain, skeletal muscle, placenta, and spinal cord. ESTs have been isolated from human brain (amygdala), embryo, placenta, germ cell, uterus, and brain libraries.
GPCRs constitute one of the largest families of signaling molecules, sharing a seven-transmembrane helix structure and existing in active and inactive forms. Activation by ligands triggers G-protein-mediated signaling and downstream effects.
Regulatory mechanisms of GPCRs are crucial for cellular physiology and pharmacological research, leading to development of major drugs such as Zyprexa and Claritin.
