Target Information

Damage-regulated autophagy modulator (DRAM) is a p53 target gene encoding a lysosomal protein that induces autophagy, a process that degrades cytosolic proteins and organelles.
Activation of DRAM by p53 occurs alongside activation of proapoptotic genes such as PUMA and Bax, together promoting a full cell death response.
Although DRAM alone cannot induce apoptosis, its inactivation in certain cancers underscores its importance and suggests autophagy may play a more significant role in cancer than previously thought.
At least two different isoforms of DRAM are known to exist.
