Target Information

Damage-regulated autophagy modulator (DRAM) is a p53 target gene encoding a lysosomal protein that induces autophagy, a process that degrades cytosolic proteins and organelles. Activation of DRAM by p53 occurs alongside activation of proapoptotic genes such as PUMA and Bax, collectively promoting full cell death responses.
DRAM alone cannot induce apoptosis, but its inactivation in certain cancers highlights its importance and suggests that autophagy may play a more significant role in cancer progression than previously thought.
At least two different isoforms of DRAM are known.
