Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocytes) 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발견됩니다. 신경 줄기세포 역시 GFAP을 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 성상교세포 표지자로 널리 사용됩니다.
여러 종류의 뇌종양에서 GFAP이 과발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP은 발달 과정 중 성상교세포를 다른 교세포와 구분하는 표지자로 활용됩니다. 또한 GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 중추신경계의 성상교세포에 영향을 미치는 드문 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. GFAP 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 전사체 변이체를 생성하며, 각각 다른 isoform을 암호화합니다.
