Target Information

Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, consisting of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 distinct proteins. The encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal protein is a component of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It is a major substrate of ribosomal protein kinases, with phosphorylation at several C-terminal serine residues induced by growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens. Dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein plays a role in controlling cell growth and proliferation through selective translation of specific mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene exist throughout the genome.
