Product Specific Information

The G8.8 monoclonal antibody reacts with the 40 kDa mouse EpCAM (epithelial cellular adhesion molecule), also known as EGP40, 17-1A antigen, TACSTD1, and CD326. Generated using the TE-71 thymic epithelial cell line as immunogen, CD326 is expressed on most epithelial cells and considered a pan-carcinoma antigen. It mediates calcium-independent, homophilic cell-cell adhesion and may function as a growth factor receptor.
CD326 interacts with LAIR-1 (CD305) and LAIR-2 (CD306) to inhibit cellular activation and inflammation, playing an important role in tumor biology.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of TE-71 murine thymic epithelial cells at ≤0.125 µg/test. A test is defined as staining a cell sample in 100 µL volume. Cell number may range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test. Antibody titration recommended for optimal performance.

Target Information

Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~40 kDa) expressed in epithelial cells. It functions as a calcium-independent adhesion molecule and influences cell cycle, proliferation, and metabolism via induction of c-myc, cyclin A, and E.
Ep-CAM overexpression is associated with increased epithelial proliferation and serves as a marker for epithelial-derived tumors. It is expressed on baso-lateral surfaces of most simple epithelia and carcinoma types, and can distinguish adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
