Target Information

Cyclin E belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic protein abundance through the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and Cyclin E forms a complex with CDK2 to control the G1/S transition. It accumulates at the G1-S boundary and is degraded during S phase. Overexpression is associated with chromosomal instability and tumorigenesis. Cyclin E also interacts with NPAT, contributing to histone gene expression and cell-cycle progression. Multiple splice variants have been described.
