Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical catalytic domains that phosphorylates residues of the S6 ribosomal protein.
It is localized mainly in the cytoplasm and plays essential roles in:
- Growth factor–regulated cell proliferation
- Cell motility and metastasis
- Immune response and tissue repair
p70 S6 kinase acts downstream of PI3-kinase, targeting S6 ribosomal protein to enhance protein synthesis and cell proliferation.
Amplification and overexpression of this kinase are observed in certain breast cancer cell lines.
