Target Information

STAT3 is a member of the STAT (signal transducers and activators of transcription) family, phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, and acts as a transcription factor in response to cytokines and growth factors.
Activation occurs via Interferon-alpha, Interferon-gamma, EGF, PDGF, and IL6.
Phosphorylation on tyrosine 705 by JAK1 and JAK2 is essential for dimer formation, nuclear translocation, and DNA binding.
In humans, the STAT3 gene is located on chromosome 17q.
STAT3 mediates gene expression involved in cell growth and apoptosis.
Regulated by Rac1 and inhibited by PIAS3.
Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encode distinct isoforms.
Deletion of STAT3 in knockout mice is lethal at early embryonic stages.
