Target Information
Shank1 is an adapter protein located in the postsynaptic density (PSD) of excitatory synapses. It interconnects receptors of the postsynaptic membrane, including NMDA-type and metabotropic glutamate receptors, through complexes with GKAP/PSD-95 and Homer, and links them to the actin-based cytoskeleton. It plays a role in the structural and functional organization of dendritic spines and synaptic junctions.
