Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine induced by apoptosis, involved in angiogenesis, inflammation, and wound healing. It sensitizes tumor-associated vasculature to tumor necrosis factor. The precursor protein corresponds to the p43 subunit of the multi-tRNA synthetase complex, modulating aminoacylation activity in normal cells. After proteolytic cleavage in tumor cells, it stimulates inflammatory responses. Multiple transcript variants and a pseudogene (chromosome 20) have been identified.
