Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a cytokine specifically induced by apoptosis and involved in angiogenesis, inflammation, and wound healing. Its release renders tumor-associated vasculature sensitive to tumor necrosis factor. The precursor protein corresponds to the p43 subunit of the multi-tRNA synthetase complex and modulates aminoacylation activity of tRNA synthetase in normal cells. It also stimulates inflammatory responses after proteolytic cleavage in tumor cells. Multiple transcript variants and a pseudogene on chromosome 20 have been identified.
