Product Specific Information
The V9 monoclonal antibody recognizes human Vimentin, a 57 kDa intermediate filament protein expressed in mesenchymal-derived cells, radial glia, immature glial cells, and pancreatic precursor cells. It serves as a marker of cardiac differentiation. In neural cells, vimentin expression is gradually replaced by neurofilaments. Surface expression has been reported on activated macrophages, platelets, apoptotic T cells, and neutrophils.
This antibody also recognizes canine, rat, and chicken vimentin but not mouse vimentin.
Applications Reported: Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, and immunohistochemistry (frozen and paraffin-embedded tissues).
Applications Tested: Tested by ICC on paraformaldehyde-fixed SK-N-SH or C6 cells and by WB on HeLa lysates. Recommended ≤1 µg/mL; titration advised for optimal performance.
Purity: >90% (SDS-PAGE).
Aggregation: <10% (HPLC).
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.
Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein found in mesenchymal cells. It assists in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane. Expressed early along with desmin, vimentin is later replaced by tissue-specific intermediate filaments. It plays a role in steroid synthesis by regulating cholesterol-containing lipid droplets and their interaction with mitochondria. Phosphorylation of vimentin induces cytoskeletal rearrangements that enhance cholesterol transport and steroidogenesis.
