Product Specific Information

  • Antibody stability: 24 months
  • Positive Control: Human breast or urothelial carcinoma tissue
  • Cellular Localization: Nuclear

Specificity Comments:
GATA-3 (GATA binding protein 3) is a 50 kDa nuclear transcription factor involved in development and maintenance of multiple human tissues including hematopoietic cells, skin, kidney, mammary gland, and CNS. It plays a key role in luminal cell differentiation in the mammary gland and regulates genes associated with breast cancer proliferation. GATA-3 expression correlates with estrogen receptor-alpha (ER) expression in breast cancer and serves as a novel marker for bladder cancer, staining 67% of urothelial carcinomas but not prostate or renal carcinomas.

Target Information

The genes for the four subunits of the T-cell antigen receptor (α, β, γ, δ) are regulated by distinct enhancers and their enhancer-binding proteins. GATA3 binds to enhancer elements of all four TCR genes, acting as a zinc finger enhancer-binding protein. GATA3 mRNA is expressed in T cells but not in B cells or macrophages, indicating its role in T-lymphocyte lineage differentiation and TCR gene activation. The human GATA3 gene comprises six exons over 17 kb, with two zinc fingers encoded by separate exons highly conserved with GATA1.
