Product Specific Information
The MP5-20F3 antibody reacts with mouse interleukin-6 (IL-6). It is a neutralizing antibody recognizing mouse IL-6 (also known as B Cell Stimulating Factor, BCSF, and BSF-2), a 21–28 kDa cytokine produced by various cell types such as monocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells. Upon stimulation, macrophages, T, B, mast, glial, eosinophils, keratinocytes, and granulocytes also secrete IL-6. This cytokine influences antigen-specific immune responses, inflammation, and neuronal development, and is a key mediator of the acute phase reaction.
Applications Reported: Suitable for intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Validated for intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis using stimulated mouse thioglycolate-elicited peritoneal exudate cells with the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00). Recommended usage ≤ 0.5 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number per test may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells. Antibody titration is advised for optimal performance.

eFluor® 450 is an alternative to Pacific Blue®, emitting at 445 nm and excited at 405 nm (Violet laser). Ensure instrument compatibility.

Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen that can induce fever in autoimmune diseases or infections. Expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, IL-6 induces transcriptional inflammatory responses via the IL-6 receptor alpha. It is implicated in diseases such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi Sarcoma, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels are associated with viral infections, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
