Target Information
STING (TMEM173) is a 379-amino-acid signaling protein that plays a key role in innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways to induce type I interferon (IFN-α, IFN-β) expression, establishing a potent antiviral state. STING may also have translocon function and is involved in apoptotic signaling through association with MHC-II, aiding detection of intracellular viral RNA and DNA. It mediates death signaling via ERK pathway activation and is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane. STING is ubiquitously expressed across most tissues.
