Target Information
STING is a 379 amino acid signaling protein that acts as a key component of innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 transcription pathways to induce expression of type I interferons (IFN-alpha and IFN-beta), exerting a potent antiviral state.
STING may function as a translocon and is involved in transduction of apoptotic signals via its association with MHC-II, facilitating detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA. It mediates death signaling through activation of the ERK pathway.
STING is generally localized in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
