Target Information
CCR4 is a chemokine receptor preferentially expressed on type 2 helper T (Th2-type) cells. Its expression on Th2 cells is transiently increased following TCR and CD28 engagement. Activated Th1 cells also up-regulate CCR4 expression and responsiveness to thymus- and activation-regulated chemokine.
Chemokines are small (8–14 kD), mostly basic molecules that regulate leukocyte trafficking via interactions with 7-transmembrane, G protein-coupled receptors. They play key roles in immune system development, homeostasis, and function, as well as in the central nervous system and angiogenesis.
Chemokines are divided into two major subfamilies, CXC and CC, based on the arrangement of conserved cysteine residues.
