Target Information
CDK8 phosphorylates the carboxy-terminal domain of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II. This protein is coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin C. CDK8 belongs to the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) family, which are key regulators of cell cycle progression. Members such as p34/Cdc2 and Cdk2 function in late cycle stages, while Cdk4 and Cdk6 are involved in G1 to S phase transition. Human Cdk8–Cyclin C complex is proposed to interact with RNA polymerase, influencing transcription mechanisms linked to cell division.
