Target Information
The asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGPR) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (42 kDa) that mediates binding, internalization, and degradation of extracellular glycoproteins with exposed terminal galactose residues. It is expressed on the surface of hepatocytes, localized to sinusoidal and lateral plasma membranes but not on the bile canalicular membrane.
The mammalian hepatic ASGPR mediates endocytosis and degradation of serum proteins lacking terminal sialic residues. The rat ASGPR consists of three subunits: RHL-1, RHL-2, and RHL-3. The monoclonal antibody 8D7 recognizes an epitope of RHL-1 and cross-reacts with human ASGPR.
