Target Information

TRF1 is a negative regulator of telomere length maintenance. Two proteins, tankyrase and TIN2, bind to mammalian TRF1.
Tankyrase, homologous to ankyrins and PARP catalytic domains, localizes to telomeres via TRF1 binding and exhibits PARP activity.
ADP-ribosylation of TRF1 reduces its telomeric DNA binding, suggesting telomere regulation by poly(ADP)-ribosylation.
TIN2 interacts with TRF1, localizes to telomeres, and is essential for telomere length regulation.
TIN2 and TRF1 are constitutively expressed, acting together to balance telomere elongation by telomerase.
However, endogenous expression is low, making visualization by immunostaining difficult in some cells.
