Product Specific Information
The H57-597 monoclonal antibody reacts with the beta chain of mouse TCR. TCR beta is expressed by thymocytes in a developmentally regulated manner and by a majority of peripheral T cells. Crosslinking of the TCR complex with H57-597 induces activation and proliferation of T cells or apoptosis depending on assay conditions. It is used as a phenotypic marker for TCR beta–expressing T cells.

Target Information
T cell receptors (TCRs) discriminate foreign from self-peptides presented by MHC class II molecules, critical for adaptive immunity. Recognition of self-peptides is linked to autoimmune diseases, while mutant self-peptides are associated with tumors. Superantigen engagement of TCRs can cause toxic shock syndrome. Autoantibodies to V beta segments are found in RA and SLE patients, potentially modulating inflammatory responses. Most human T cells express TCR alpha-beta with CD4 or CD8; gamma-delta T cells, found in epithelial tissues, exhibit distinct antigen recognition and immunoregulatory functions.
