Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and play critical roles in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells.
They are activated by various stimuli such as growth factors, cytokines, viral infection, and G protein-coupled receptor ligands.
Upon activation, Ras interacts with Raf, which phosphorylates MEK1/2, leading to activation of ERK1/2.
Activated ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or migrate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
