Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid-hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors.
It is a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds active testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Upon binding the hormone ligand, the receptor dissociates from accessory proteins, translocates into the nucleus, dimerizes, and stimulates transcription of androgen-responsive genes.

AR signaling plays a key role in development and function of male reproductive organs (prostate, epididymis) and also affects nonreproductive organs (muscle, hair follicles, brain).
Abnormalities in AR signaling are linked to diseases such as prostate cancer, Kennedy’s disease, and male infertility.
Mutations in this gene are associated with complete androgen insensitivity (CAIS).
