Target Information
Apoptosis, or programmed cell death, is essential for development, tissue turnover, and tumor suppression. PDCD4 encodes a tumor suppressor protein whose expression is lost in several carcinomas (breast, colon, lung, prostate). It inhibits the helicase activity of eIF4A and the transactivation mediated by AP-1. PDCD4 activity is regulated by Akt-mediated phosphorylation. Two isoforms of PDCD4 are known.
