Product Specific Information
MA3-944 detects calpastatin from bovine, human, pig, and rat tissues and cells. This antibody does not cross-react with calpains or calmodulin.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and immunocytochemical procedures.
- Western Blot: Detects 150, 125, 90, and 70 kDa proteins from bovine skeletal muscle extract, corresponding to different start sites of the calpastatin gene.
- Immunocytochemistry: In porcine LLC-PK1 cells, results in diffuse cytoplasmic staining.
The immunogen is purified bovine skeletal muscle 80 kDa subunit of m-calpastatin.
This antibody recognizes an epitope between amino acid residues 543–673 (domain IV) of human calpastatin.
Target Information
Calpastatin is an endogenous inhibitor of calpain, a calcium-dependent cysteine protease.
It consists of an N-terminal domain L and four repetitive calpain-inhibition domains (1–4).
Calpastatin is involved in proteolysis of amyloid precursor protein and participates in membrane fusion events such as neural vesicle exocytosis, platelet aggregation, and red-cell aggregation.
It may also influence expression levels of structural or regulatory proteins.
